Okay, no time for pictures, and I SHOULD have done a "before".... but that would have required some confidence that we'd actually get to an "after."
We are attempting to clean out the storage room for the first time in ... 10??? years. Don't ask.
It's bad.
Even I am sneezing,
and I am not the one who goes nuts easily with the dust & must.
My lungs don't feel too great, so Dad's
which are probably at least borderline asthmatic
(I'm assuming, since he's been given inhalers in the past)
are probably not going to be happy.
However, I am staying "deeper" in the room than he is,
so maybe that will help.
Doesn't mean I am working any harder, though.
It looks kid of like
the storage room blew up
& the debris is all over the rec room.
Looks like another year of work.
And we are nowhere near done.
There have been a few "finds" so far.
Found some of Josh's little boy treasure papers and stuff.
Sad, because, uh, as God's Word declares, "moth and rust doth corrupt."
I wish I'd had them better preserved.
Found some of my poetry from WAY back when.
Dear Daddy (yours) thought I was pretty good.
I kind of thought so, too.
But I really wasn't.
Hopefully I got better.
Found a chipmunk.
We think Theodore, but he is naked,
so we are going by the chubby cheeks to identify him.
One down, two little stuffed rodents to go.
Found the cuckoo clock.
Yay! I knew it was there somewhere.
And, most eccentric find so far:
I found my to-wear-after-pregnancy-winter-clothes from 1999.
All taped up in a box.
Oh yeah, and a dead mouse. Yuck.
Better get back to work.
Stay tuned!
Saturday UPDATE:
We found the Lite Brite. The kids are much more happy about this than I am. Drawback: I don't know where the lights are (except maybe 10).
We found about 5 weebles and their merry-go-round. Isaiah likes them.
BIG find: Pipeworks wrench. (One anyway). You can imagine what an
important find this is, although those pieces are pretty web-infested.
Important: Found J's baby book. Wondered where it was. This one was probably the best-kept of anyone's. More time then. Delivery room pictures & everything. (Too bad I didn't find these 9 months ago.)
Found Tim's "POW" shirt. Tim knows what this means. Very significant even though after a time he was not allowed to wear it. Also J's Italian Mickey Mouse shirt. Very old.
A nice box of fabric with another apparent mouse nest. I'm not planning on digging any deeper in that one till I get reinforcements.
Tim's Pippo Monkey. Tim, it's sad. I'm not sure you'd want to see.
A box of neatly organized young boy bedroom stuff. I'm thinking Ben's ?
It's all mostly getting put in the rec room.
Not at all sure we are making progress here. Except that Dad & Sam hauled
some stuff to the dump today. I guess that must count for something.

We found Simon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now all we need to find is Alvin, now we have Simon and Theodore.
And we found Lamb-chop.
Oh no, since the wedding is over, my next BIG project was getting everyone back in full school mode and managing Caitlin's senior year. I don't have time for this basement.
WHAT were we thinking????
Found Simon's and Theodore's clothes!!!!
And in case you miss the significance, do you realize how many pregnancies I've had AFTER 1999?
Correction: 6 Weebles.
Could this get any more exciting?
I REALLY wish you guys could move home for a week and help me. How do I make these decisions?????
Call this an update, a comment, whatever. Just a voice from the trenches:
Apparently you guys got a Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head, a Barrel of Monkeys, a chunky Lego set and a Memory Game every third Christmas. Why??? Beats me, I guess we just didn't know where we put the last one! This is not to even mention the obligatory slinkies, which I am NOT finding because they didn't make it to New Years. These are the indestructible toys with pieces that reproduce & end up scattered -- a piece here, a piece there-- in EVERY box I open.
Part of me wants desperately (a) to sort them into their respective sets. Part of me wants (b)to just close each cardboard box and send it to the dump.
The part of me that will win is probably the part that will (c)
try to do (a) and be paralyzed from doing anything really important for at least a month.
Help!
You know, CJ heard my cry on Facebook & offered to help me purge my junk. I'm tempted to take her up on it and fly her in from San Antonio...
Any more offers?
cool stuff
Tim's POW shirt? wow.
How is this going
