Answering the Call

Ok, I'll go.
I'm sitting down in the basement on Robert's computer (my internet isn't working), eating some apple pie. Pretty slow day at work, which is strange for a Monday. I drove home in the dark, which feels weird, then I hit Schoolkids Records and got three CDs, read some of Job, and here I am. By the way, here is a picture of Bethany from our trip. She's cute even if her head is a little smaller than we would like.

Right now I am listening to some of a band called Over the Rhine's new Christmas CD online, and it's pretty good, I must say.
Ok, now I just got back from changing Rose's oil - Monday night is car night, where the guys over here work on different people's cars.
Here is me and Sam doing something so very cool, nobody else knows what it is.

Also lately, I have been writing songs more, and that has been a lot of fun.
Our time at Auntie D's isn't really represented on the blog yet, so here you go. aww...

And here's Grace on a naked lady in a shell:
Perhaps that's enough pictures. Here are some other random things that are going on:
--I'm thinking about moving downtown
--Work's finally slowing down some, which is good. Very good.
--I have not yet chosen a suitable helpmeet. Her navel must be a rounded goblet, which I have not found.
--I'm reading Great Expectations, A River Runs Through It (borrowing from an English major friend named Josh), and When I Don't Desire God.
--I'm listening to Bruce Springsteen, Over the Rhine, Johnny Cash, and Sandra McCracken among others.
--I'm writing a little story about a headless pony as a Pierce Pettis-recommended songwriting exercise.
--I am almost done with a review of Facing the Giants.
--The nursing home is still going good, in fact if you ever want to keep up/pray: graceatmorningside.blogspot.com (The staff asked us to take pictures of the residents off the site.) A lot of the people there aren't saved. Although a lot have a church background a lot of them have the mindset of a works-based salvation. The dude on there named Sam is the one I gave harmonica lessons to.
--God's been showing me a lot about how much I don't deserve grace, and how wandering my heart is, as I've been praying for him to. We're going through 1 Peter at church, which has hope as a big theme, about putting your hope in Jesus, in our inheritance we have in him in heaven. So that is what I've been praying and thinking about a lot also.
A lot more is going on with church, and with stuff I've been learning, which I may write l8r. I'm looking forward to thxgvng. With that, I am gone. Good night.

Wow. I am overwhelmed. Doubly.

There are so many things to respond to. I'll need tim. That was a typo which I corrected to "time" before I decided it was too funny a typo to erase.

Ben said...

Oh. wow. Mom, you must sit at the computer all day waiting for someone, anyone, to post.

Ben said...

and yeah, you'll need Tim

Ben said...

(I just mean you commented right after I posted)

The Blog Marm said...

Really? I didn't see it before now, but my computer thinks you posted at 7:21 PM. But you're right. It's pretty much a full-time job :).

I like your blog you linked us to. I had to type it in for some reason but then it worked. And your friend Thomas is really not Hispanic???

The Blog Marm said...

I refer to your comments on that blog.... which is a neat blog that I enjoyed.

The Blog Marm said...

Amazing. I must have double vision. I thought the post was there twice, but now it's gone.

The Blog Marm said...

Well, one's gone. Humor me & say there were two.

Ben said...

Thomas is actually as indian as they come. I dunno know how he ended up looking like that.

Sometime you should meet Terry Bradburn, the lady that writes the blog.

Yeah, it was here twice.

Ben said...

doesn't G look like Dad in that picture?

Ben said...

(the bottom one - don't tell Dad she looks like him in the top one)

Anonymous said...

Umm, you do know that first picture is of Caitlin, right? :)

The Blog Marm said...

Headless pony? That's gotta be inspiring.

The Blog Marm said...

Naked lady in a shell? You make me feel like a pretty terrible parent :).

The Blog Marm said...

Whatever you & Sam are doing, Josh & Abby are behind you, watching in - uh, admiration. Or something. Definitely something.

Ben said...

-oh. oops, did not know that was Caitlin. I should have known from the beady little eyes.
-yes, it is in a weird way. Pierce did not suggest headless ponies, but he gave us a handout at the songwriting workshop that suggests writing a story based on a crazy title you come up with , so that's what i'm doing.

Anonymous said...

Very funny. No, if you had paid attention, you would have known it was me by the socks i was wearing.

The Blog Marm said...

Socks???

Josh and Abby said...

I was going to going to say that the mag pic is obviously Caitlin, since only she would hold her arm that way, but I see the situation is already clarified.

Also, the lady in the shell had a tail. Ladies with tails are never indecent, no matter how they dress. Its just something I noticed.

The Blog Marm said...

Thank you, I feel like a better parent now. I didn't really let my child into some obscene environment.

The Blog Marm said...

Do we get to read the "Giants" review or is it on some obscure web site?

The Blog Marm said...

The helpmeet thing, um...... ok. Just keep us posted. Not like you are picky or anything.

Ben,
You're going to make somebody a good and godly husband!
Also, that wasn't Bethany, that's the Gracie I want to adopt from China!!

Ben,
A wise Christian Counselor once told me, "Everybody has their own God stories, but underneath them all is the story of Grace and Love, and it always wins, because it's Truth."
Auntie D.

Ben said...

cool. thanks for the thought...I think that yeah, resonating under all the good stories is the story of grace, since that is what resonates with us.

Ben said...

about the review...I was going to email it to you.

Ben said...

who all is going to be there 4 thanksgibing?

The Blog Marm said...

Thanksgibing.......let's see. I think all the R. Haus except J & A. And there is a possibility that G & G will come, but we're not sure yet. I think it depends on weather.

Ben said...

cool. I've had several people on different occasions, by the way, tell me that I prounouce "kool-aid" like kyewl-aid. Do you guys do this?

Anonymous said...

Hmm...I don't think I've noticed any of us doing that.

The Blog Marm said...

But I think we should definitely. Did you tell them you didn't have enought Kyewl-Aid (or TV, maybe) growing up to get good at pronouncing it? Besides, you were a homeskyewler!!
Or I guess if you want you could blame it on the Georgia/Dakotas/Alabama/California/Germany accent. They probably haven't heard enough of that accent to know how it should sound.

Anonymous said...

The reason Bethany hasn't noticed is because we never have Kool-Aid anymore. I don't think G & I even know what it is.

Anonymous said...

Kyewl-Aid, I mean.

The Blog Marm said...

I'd feel like a good mother because of that, if only they didn't know what Dr. Pepper was.

Ben said...

but it just isn't the same

Ben said...

poor G & I

The Blog Marm said...

Yes, they are so deprived. Sad.

The Blog Marm said...

Pretty funny! Cedars of Lebanon????
Take note, Benj!

Anonymous said...

What's the tower of Lebanon?????When was the last tme I commented?

Anonymous said...

I mean time.

Anonymous said...

I guess the last time I commented was on "kitty".

Anonymous said...

The Sam is back.

The Blog Marm said...

Illegally.

Ben said...

illegally?

Ben said...

I'd rather her nose be like the bushes of Gethsemane than the cedars of lebanon. although I myself have inherited the Lebanese nose

The Blog Marm said...

Yes, go with Gethsemane for the sake of your children.

Anonymous said...

Where is everybody???

Ben said...

that's what I'm screamin.

hey you guys should do a thanksgiving post

Ben,
This has nothing to do with your story, so I'll probably get excommunicated from the Blog for life. I heard on the news that a lady was decorating a Christmas tree and her finger started bleeding. She thought she had cut it on a pine needle, then she saw a BAT in her tree. It turns out the people who sold the tree keep bats around to get rid of the pests. She didn't sue.
Auntie D.

The Blog Marm said...

That's it. She's out. For life :)

Ben said...

yeah I saw that too. maybe she kept it as a pet.

The Blog Marm said...

Ben, I'm not sure everyone's mind works that way. Sorry to break it to you :)
